The track that JCW Racing calls home, Port Royal Speedway, has crowned their 2015 River Valley Builders 305 Points champion with the close of this past Saturday’s Blue Collar Classic. Though JCW Racing didn’t win the championship, team owner and driver Jake Waters claimed second place.
The 2015 racing season started with the team achieving three top 10 finishes, one a win, all at Port Royal Speedway. The win, Waters’ second at Port Royal, came in just his third appearance of the season, an early victory that fueled the team to keep battling throughout the coming months.
The Memorial holiday weekend brought a rare challenge of a four-race stretch, with the team taking the opportunity to compete with both the Pennsylvania (PA) Sprint Series (PASS) and the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series Friday through Monday nights. Unfortunately, the weekend did not start as planned at Williams Grove Speedway, with Waters colliding with another competitor and tearing the front axle. Bad luck then spilled over to the following night at Port Royal, where Waters lost the front hub going in to turn one, causing him to back in to the wall.
Recovering from the holiday weekend and making necessary repairs, JCW Racing started to then find traction mid-season with a 5th place finish at Hesston Speedway to kick off June. Wrapping up the season in August and September, the team finished strong with four top 5 finishes and Waters’ first heat race win at Port Royal Speedway.
JCW Racing ends the 2015 racing season 13th in PA Sprint Series Points overall, running only 10 PASS events during the season while other competitors ran 12. The second place points finish at Port Royal is JCW Racing’s highest, up from finishing 8th in 2014 and 11th in 2013.
