In JCW Racing’s only appearance at Bedford Speedway during the 2015 season, the team planned to use Saturday’s Fall Fest IV as a test for the upcoming Blue Collar Classic at Port Royal Speedway in October. Previously, due to an incident at Williams Grove in May, the team was unable to compete in the first of two planned events at Bedford. Saturday night proved to be both beneficial and rewarding.
Team Owner and Driver Jake Waters started the night at Pennsylvania’s oldest active dirt track by pulling a 40 pill, lining the team up to start Heat 2 in 7th position. After getting a good start to the race, Waters advanced to 3rd going in to Turn 1. Due to the front row starters jumping the green flag, the field was called back to restart. The second attempt was less favorable for Waters, and did not get as good of a start as the first. During the heat, the driver reported racing a little too hard in trying to make passes to advance position. In the end, JCW Racing finished the heat race in 5th position.
Once heat races finished and the invert was set, JCW Racing lined up to start 10th for the feature race. The team made significant changes to the RaceSaver 305 No. 10 prior to the feature after Waters and team member Rich walked the track to learn of changing conditions.
As the night’s main event began, Waters was able to jump from 10th to 8th position but was boxed in and unable to advance early. Making passes on the next lap and moving up to 6th, the caution came out to slow the field. On the restart, Waters made a bold move for 3rd, moving to the outside while sitting in 6th position. After battling with Ryan Lynn for the next three laps, Waters was able to secure 3rd, setting sights on 2nd then the lead. After contending with the leaders during the remaining 15 laps, JCW Racing crossed the finish line in 3rd place.
"We came to Bedford hoping to learn more about the plated RaceSaver tire that’s required we run at Port Royal Speedway on October 10, and we feel we achieved that and more. Without being boxed in early and the late caution during the feature, I believe we could have challenged for the win, but we are thrilled with our performance. We were able to get the car to stick in the black parts of the track and make time, which is a huge accomplishment.” – Jake Waters
