Dedication, commitment, and the desire to return to the track quickly, JCW Racing raced back from an engine failure at Hesston Speedway in May to finish a strong 10th place finish this past Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pennsylvania. With the support from crew, sponsors, family and friends, team owner and driver Jake Waters and the team were able to finalize rebuilding the motor, then push the car through technical inspection, dyno testing, and firing of the No. 10 305 RaceSaver winged sprint in four days.
Kicking off return to the "Speed Palace," Waters drew pill 44, lining the team up in eight position in Heat 2. After turning critical laps in warmup to get a feel for the rebuilt motor, Waters knew and felt he had a fast car. As the heat started, Waters attempted an aggressive move that caused him to correct to avoid hitting the wall. Waters then moved into the fifth position on the first lap, moving up to fourth on the second. Consistently faster than cars in higher positions, Waters settled for a fourth place finish at the checkered flag of Heat 2.
Lining up in 11th position for the feature race, Waters made a decent jump at the drop of green flag, though the start was eventually called to reset. On the restart, Waters felt he did not get as good of a start but advanced to 9th. After a red flag on lap two, the driver was able to redeem himself and capitalize to claim 8th position. Making advancements throughout the 18 lap event, Waters was unfortunately shuffled back on additional restarts, and felt he struggled to get comfortable in the car. Ultimately, Waters settled for a 10th place finish on the night, however moved up to second in Port Royal’s 305 Sprint Championship Points.
"We were much better in the heat than the feature, but we had a much better car than 10th place. Tha shows how important the heats can be. Ultimately, it was not a terrible night for us all around, and it was great to get back on track after Hesston. I cannot thank everyone enough for their time, effort, and dedication over the last 35 days,” noted Waters.
JCW Racing’s next race is currently to be determined. Stay tuned to the team’s website and social media channels for more information as it becomes available.
