JCW Racing charged to the checkered flag at Port Royal Speedway Saturday night, finishing atop the leaderboard on what proved to be a special night for driver Jake Waters and the team. Waters, who celebrated his birthday and first win of 2015 in victory lane, also had a special guest in the stands cheering him on – his daughter, Alivia. Alivia, who was born November, 2014, seemed to be just the good luck charm Waters needed, watching her daddy race around the speedway for her first time.
Action at the track began after a full day of beautiful weather, with 24 other Pennsylvania Sprint Series (PASS) 305 RaceSaver sprint cars attempting to make the feature race during Free Student Night. The night began as driver Jake Waters pulled a pill draw of 5, putting JCW Racing on the pole in Heat 3. Waters reported making a few mistakes on the final lap of Heat 3, but kept the no. 10 machine up front, finishing in second place after leading the first two laps.
The feature race saw JCW Racing starting in 3rd position, and as the green flag dropped to signal the start, Waters made a move inside to pass, taking it three-wide with Cale Reigle and James Pryde down the front stretch. After a drag race down the back stretch, JCW Racing took full control of the lead and never looked back, even after being stacked back up to restart on lap 8 after the only yellow flag of the race. In the end, JCW Racing finished the feature unchallenged, rolling in to victory lane after crossing the finish line with a 1.3 second gap between him and second place finisher Bill Jones, Jr.
“When the green flag dropped, I knew I had to make a bold move to try and get the lead on the start. Fortunately, it worked and we were able to park it on stage. Our partners have been great in helping us achieve such success this early in the season. With some higher profile events coming up, we hope to continue the momentum, while making our partners proud.” – Jake Waters
